Mini‑poisson record : à peine 2 cm, il tiendrait sur un bout de crayon.
Maison exclusive : il vit agrippé à une seule gorgone (un corail‑ventail) dans l’océan Pacifique Ouest, entre 15 m et 40 m de profondeur.
Camouflage magique : ses petites bosses rouges ou jaunes imitent les polypes du corail ; même les plongeurs doivent ouvrir l’œil pour le trouver.
Famille soudée : un couple partage la même branche toute sa vie. Le papa porte les œufs : ils grandissent dans sa poche ventrale puis sortent déjà formés.
Indicateur de santé : si la gorgone blanchit à cause de la pollution ou du réchauffement, l’hippocampe disparaît aussi. Protéger les récifs, c’est protéger ce minuscule héros.
