La raie mobula vit dans la mer autour de Madagascar, surtout près de Nosy Be. Elle a le dos foncé, brun ou bleu-noir, avec une grande tache sombre sur la nuque. Son ventre est tout blanc.
Elle nage souvent près de la surface et se nourrit en filtrant l’eau pour attraper de tout petits animaux appelés plancton. Elle a deux petites nageoires près de sa bouche qui l’aident à diriger la nourriture.
La raie mobula aime être en groupe. Parfois, elle saute hors de l’eau.
Mais cette raie est en danger parce qu’elle est souvent attrapée par erreur dans les filets de pêche.
