Le l\u00e9mur de Sclater est un animal de taille moyenne, pesant autour de 2,4 kg. Sa queue lui sert \u00e0 garder l’\u00e9quilibre. Il vit dans les arbres des for\u00eats humides de la p\u00e9ninsule de Sahamalaza, au nord-ouest de Madagascar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On reconna\u00eet facilement cet animal gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses yeux bleus tr\u00e8s rares chez les primates. Les m\u00e2les sont tout noirs, parfois brun fonc\u00e9, alors que les femelles sont rousses, avec une fourrure allant du brun clair \u00e0 l\u2019orange. Tous les petits naissent avec une couleur rousse, puis les m\u00e2les foncent avec le temps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son alimentation est vari\u00e9e. En saison des pluies, il mange surtout des fruits. En saison s\u00e8che, il pr\u00e9f\u00e8re les feuilles, les graines ou les champignons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le l\u00e9mur de Sclater vit en groupe, entre 4 et 11 individus. Comme chez d\u2019autres l\u00e9muriens, ce sont les femelles qui dominent le groupe. Les membres communiquent entre eux avec des cris, des odeurs laiss\u00e9es sur les branches et des mouvements du visage.
Ils sont actifs le jour comme la nuit, surtout quand la lune est pleine ou quand la nourriture manque. Les b\u00e9b\u00e9s naissent en septembre ou octobre apr\u00e8s une gestation d\u2019environ 4 mois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce l\u00e9murien est en danger critique d\u2019extinction. La for\u00eat dans laquelle il vit est coup\u00e9e pour faire des cultures ou du charbon de bois. Il est aussi parfois chass\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
