L\u2019Erythrina madagascariensis est un arbre \u00e9pineux de Madagascar avec ses grandes fleurs orange-rouge lorsque presque toutes ses feuilles sont tomb\u00e9es. Il attire ainsi de nombreux oiseaux friands de nectar. Son tronc et ses branches portent de petites \u00e9pines semblables \u00e0 des dents de dragon, tandis que ses feuilles, qui arrivent plus tard, comptent trois lobes verts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ses racines h\u00e9bergent des bact\u00e9ries capables de transformer l\u2019azote de l\u2019air en nourriture pour le sol. Apr\u00e8s la floraison, l\u2019arbre produit de longues gousses brunes contenant des graines rouge vif, d\u00e9coratives mais toxiques, qu\u2019il ne faut jamais go\u00fbter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le bois l\u00e9ger sert parfois \u00e0 fabriquer de petits objets, et ses fleurs lumineuses embellissent les jardins. On le plante toutefois \u00e0 distance des all\u00e9es, car ses \u00e9pines peuvent blesser. En plus d\u2019apporter de l\u2019ombre, il nourrit les oiseaux et enrichit la terre, offrant au c\u0153ur de l\u2019hiver tropical un spectacle de feux d\u2019artifice naturels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
