Un arbre qui ressemble \u00e0 une \u00e9norme gourde remplie d\u2019eau, c\u2019est le baobab de Madagascar. Il peut atteindre 5 \u00e0 20 m de haut. Son tronc bomb\u00e9 stocke l\u2019eau de pluie, ainsi, m\u00eame quand la saison s\u00e8che arrive, l\u2019arbre peut \u00ab boire \u00bb dans sa propre r\u00e9serve<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Des fleurs de feu qui s\u2019ouvrent la nuit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chaque soir, d\u2019imposantes fleurs rouge vif \u00e9clatent au bout des branches. Leurs longs filaments jaunes rappellent un feu d\u2019artifice miniature. Elles s\u2019ouvrent au cr\u00e9puscule, diffusent un parfum sucr\u00e9, puis se referment avant l\u2019aube. Ce spectacle attire surtout un papillon\u2011sphinx \u00e0 tr\u00e8s longue trompe. Sans ce visiteur de nuit, pas de fruits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De petits fruits pleins d\u2019\u00e9nergie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Une fois pollinis\u00e9, l\u2019arbre produit de petits fruits verts, souvent plus courts qu\u2019une balle de tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leur coque est dure comme une noix, mais l\u2019int\u00e9rieur renferme une pulpe acidul\u00e9e, riche en vitamine C, que les enfants malgaches grignotent comme un bonbon naturel. Les graines, en forme de haricot, voyagent gr\u00e2ce aux animaux ou m\u00eame en flottant sur l\u2019eau des rivi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
